Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) has been one of the best travel destinations of my entire life. What struck me the most was its authenticity and historical beauty, temples and natural landscapes, and in general the simplicity that is the distinguishing feature of this country. Last but not least, Burma is an extremely safe country for women like me, who are traveling alone, and it is also one of the favorite destinations for backpackers, where making friends with other travelers is really easy.
During my trip to Myanmar, I refrained from packing cool or fancy dresses and only wore comfortable pants and simple shirts, never wore make up, or cared about my hair.
It is difficult to say what my favorite place in Myanmar is. Every place I’ve visited struck me in a different way and for different reasons. If I think of Yangon, I immediately think of the color gold and especially of its gold-colored pagodas. When I think of Inle Lake, the fishermen standing on one leg and the markets by the lake come to mind. If I think of Mandalay, I think of long bike rides, that never get you tired, but instead relax you and let you focus more on the present. If I think of Bagan, I remember the valley with its hundreds of temples and those days spent riding an electric motorbike, stopping whenever and wherever I wanted to stop. And still more, I remember the mornings I woke up at 4:00 just to enjoy the sunrise in the Valley of the Temples. This was Myanmar for me: temples, colors, sunrises, sunshine, night bus rides, local people, backpackers, hostels, and simplicity. When it comes to places like this, words alone are not enough to paint the full picture. This is why I want to share 20 pictures to inspire you to visit Myanmar.
